Coppeen/Castletown-Kinneigh Outing
22 September @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Coppeen & Castletown-Kinneigh Outing – Sunday, 22 September 2024 at 3 pm.
Our final outing of the season will be a visit to Cahervagliar Ringfort, Coppeen, which is one or the largest and best preserved ringforts in West Cork. This will be followed by a visit to the round tower and graveyard at Castletown-Kinneigh. This round tower is the only surviving example of such a structure in West Cork and is unique as it is the only such tower with a hexagonal base. Our guide at both sites will be Colum Cronin of the Coppeen Archaeological Historical and Cultural Society.
The outing will commence at 3 pm sharp at Coppeen National School (eircode P47 YF43). There is ample parking at this location and it is a short walk to the ringfort. There is also parking at the ringfort for anyone with mobility issues. Afterwards we will drive to Castletown-Kinneigh (eircode P47 W023) where there is parking by the church and graveyard.
Please note for insurance reasons this event is open only to members of Skibbereen & District Historical Society, but you can join on the day.
