The Skellig Lists: A Folk Tradition concerning Marriage” by Shane Lehane.
 

Shane Lehane is Course Director of Cultural and Heritage Studies in Cork College of FET, Tramore Road Campus, Cork. He has lectured in archaeology, folklore, history, and the arts for over 30 years. He regularly appears on television and radio programmes exploring many different aspects of Irish folk tradition. He is the resident folklorist on the Today Show (RTÉ).

The talk “The Skellig Lists: A Folk Tradition Concerning Marriage” has emerged from his recordings with people who remember different ways of observing Shrove Tuesday or what they termed ‘Skellicking Day’ when doggerel verses taunted and mocked those who were not married.

All welcome, small charge for non-members.
