‘Stories of the Revolution’ by Terri Kearney and Margaret Murphy of the Skibbereen Heritage Centre.

Modelled on the highly successful 1937 Schools’ Folklore project, the ‘Stories of the Revolution’ project involved 823 children from 48 schools all around West Cork to collect thousands of intimate family accounts from the 1916-23 revolutionary period in this area.
The project team visited schools in the Skibbereen, Clonakilty, Dunmanway and Bandon areas over four years, recording this invaluable oral history, which features a range of experiences from civilians’ difficult daily lives to those directly involved in the conflict.
Terri and Margaret published extracts from these essays in a ‘coffee table’-sized book in 2022 and will now present this treasure trove of oral history in the form of the children’s artwork and stories to members in this illustrated talk
