On Thursday March 30 2017 George Salter-Townshend delivered a talk to members of the Skibbereen and District Historical Society. The subject of the talk was ‘Ireland from the Battle of Kinsale to modern times’.
A quite outstanding speaker, George’s talk was, of necessity, just a snap-shot of historical events from 1601 to the present. While he covered the history of Ireland in a very general way, George concentrated his main focus on West Cork and, quoting from various useful sources, he covered some of the major events of the past 400 years as they impacted on West Cork.
Steeped in the history of Castletownshend and this part of west Carbery himself, George has a particularly intimate knowledge of this area. He had the large audience completely engaged throughout the talk. As well as being completely engaged, we were very impressed with George’s delivery and his interpretation of the events addressed. George has never been afraid to offer an opinion and his insights and observations are valuable and refreshing.
The Skibbereen and District Historical Society would like to thank George for a very insightful and illuminating talk.
Sounds terrific, thank you.
